4 free agents who fit the mold of Panthers HC Matt Rhule

Matt Feiler – OL
- 2020 team – Pittsburgh Steelers
It’s no secret that the Carolina Panthers need a substantial makeover on their offensive line. Four of the five starters in 2020 are out of contract, with only Taylor Moton a candidate to be brought back. Couple this with center Matt Paradis possibly becoming a salary-cap casualty and this is an area of substantial need for Matt Rhule in the coming weeks.
This is a deep 2021 NFL Draft class for offensive linemen, which is something the Panthers should take advantage of. But they might also consider looking at the free-agent market for an experienced veteran who can play almost anywhere on the line of scrimmage.
Matt Feiler fits this mold and has some high-quality production to match. Although he has played at tackle over the last three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he has the frame to occupy one of the guard positions if needed and this versatility was sought by Rhule in almost every new face on the Panthers in 2020.
Feiler has given up just 11 sacks from 2,518 snaps over a three-year span in Pittsburgh. The Steelers are projected to be a little more than $35 million over the salary cap, so keeping the veteran around might not be feasible.
Carolina would be instantly strengthened if Feiler joined the ranks and he is strong leadership within the locker room could be another significant asset for a young roster.
