Aldon Smith – OLB

  • 2020 team – Dallas Cowboys

There were more than a few eyebrows raised when the Dallas Cowboys signed Aldon Smith. The ferocious pass-rusher has endured plenty of off-the-field problems that resulted in a lengthy suspension and time away from the game. But to say he made the most out of one final chance to prove himself would be something of an understatement.

Smith picked up where he left off in no uncertain terms. The outside linebacker was almost unstoppable at times throughout the season – especially early on – with his ability during run support situations another notable feature of his overall contribution.

Dallas underachieved once again, missing the playoffs with yet another losing record despite their usual hype entering the campaign. However, the impression left by Smith is sure to make him an exciting free-agent option if the Cowboys cannot free-up the necessary funds to keep him around.

The Carolina Panthers got almost nothing in the way of pass-rushing presence from the second level this season. Bringing in someone like Smith has plenty of red flags – with one more indiscretion sure to officially end his time in the league – but after keeping his nose clean in 2020 and playing well, it’s not the worst idea in the world by any stretch of the imagination.
