3 trade packages for the Carolina Panthers to land J.J. Watt
By Dean Jones
J.J. Watt’s time with the Houston Texans is coming to an end, but can the Carolina Panthers put a package together this offseason?
It’s not just Deshaun Watson that might be departing the Houston Texans this offseason. According to multiple reports, the organization might also be looking to offload J.J. Watt after a standout career with the franchise with a new regime coming in during a clear period of transition.
Watt has been one of the best in the business for a considerable period of time. The defensive end is a ferocious presence on the edge when firing on all cylinders and although there are some injury concerns, few teams across the league wouldn’t be more than will to bring him on board at the right price.
The obvious fit seems to be the Pittsburgh Steelers, with J.J.’s brothers, T.J. and Derek, both playing there at this time. However, they are in the midst of some serious salary-cap concerns and it remains to be seen whether they could pull off this sort of deal.
This is a trade that would benefit the Carolina Panthers, who struggled to generate pressure during the first half of the campaign before progressing down the stretch. Having someone with the five-time All-Pro’s experience would be invaluable to a young and relatively unproven group of players who are still learning their craft despite the obvious strides made in 2020.
New general manager Scott Fitterer wants to be in on every deal, but just what would it take for the Panthers to acquire Watt this offseason?
