Kavon Frazier might not have seen much in the way of starting time throughout his NFL career. But the safety might end up being a real steal for someone in free agency this year.

The former sixth-round pick spent his first four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys before joining the Miami Dolphins last year. Frazier was used more of a special teams player who came in for the occasional starting rep and really caught the eye despite being new to the scheme.

Whether the Dolphins are going to keep Frazier around is up for debate.

But he has all the athletic traits Matt Rhule sought in his first recruitment process last year and may be a cheap target for the Carolina Panthers this spring.

This might be a position where the Panthers seek some other alternatives. Tre Boston and Juston Burris just didn’t do enough as a tandem to be considered as a viable long-term duo on the backend and in the latter’s case, it could see him released after just one season in Carolina.

Phil Snow might opt to move stud rookie Jeremy Chinn to one of the safety spots, although this would leave the Panthers short at the second level. Adding someone with the intriguing skill set Frazier brings to the table wouldn’t exactly cost the earth and putting some extra responsibility on his shoulders might be the making of the player.
