Panthers trade for Sam Darnold in 7-round 2021 NFL Mock Draft
By Dean Jones
Penei Sewell – OT (Oregon)
The Draft Network’s mock machine once again had Penei Sewell falling to No. 8 overall, which would be a no brainer for the Carolina Panthers, to put it mildly. Oregon’s stud left tackle is projected to be the best offensive lineman to enter the NFL in quite some time and it shouldn’t take general manager Scott Fitterer to put in a call to acquire the player with their first-round pick.
Simply put, Sewell has everything going for him. His dominance in run blocking was a notable feature of his contribution in college, with the player’s quickness on the edge enabling him to thwart even the most dominant pass-rushers with ease.
How good was Sewell in 2019?
He received a second-placed Heisman Trophy vote.
The supreme protector opted out of the 2020 campaign due to COVID-19 health concerns, which shouldn’t hurt his stock whatsoever once NFL scouts stick on his film. Sewell has the potential to be a plug and play starter at left tackle with an All-Pro ceiling that would solidify the blindside of whoever is under center in Carolina and give them a bookend tackle tandem providing an extension can be agreed with Taylor Moton.
Realistically speaking, the chances of Sewell falling to the Panthers are slim.
The Jets, Dolphins, and Bengals are all possible destinations way ahead of Carolina’s pick. So if he does drop into their laps, they cannot let this pass them by.
