Deonte Brown – OG (Alabama)

Now the Carolina Panthers have their quarterback, it’s imperative they build an offensive line that is capable of protecting him. Taking Penei Sewell in the first-round was the best possible start. But more will be needed on the interior to get them moving in the right direction.

Although Deonte Brown’s pass-protection came under some significant scrutiny at the 2021 Senior Bowl, he enjoyed a standout season for Alabama on their way to a convincing National Championship victory and the dominant guard is a high-value selection at this juncture.

Brown is a mountain of a man who throws around opposing defensive tackles like rag dolls. He is immense in creating holes in running situations and although any team that drafts the prospect will need to watch his weight at all times, there is a substantial amount to work with.

The Panthers could be looking for two new guards this offseason with Chris Reed and John Miller both out of contract and unlikely to be brought back. Getting a young player to fill the void long-term would be another welcome move and if they can add a proven veteran who can be a plug and play starter, it might give Sam Darnold a chance to make his presence felt in a different environment to become the latest former Jet who thrives in Carolina following the instant success of Robby Anderson in 2020.
