4 trades that could see Teddy Bridgewater leave the Panthers
By Dean Jones
What sort of trade deals could the Carolina Panthers possibly explore that would see quarterback Teddy Bridgewater leave after just one season?
The writing seems to be on the wall for Teddy Bridgewater this offseason. His first campaign as the quarterback of the Carolina Panthers didn’t go according to plan and the front office has made no secret of their desire to get a better option under center in 2021.
Going 0-8 on game-winning or tying drives during the season didn’t help Bridgewater’s case for an extended stay with the franchise. But the Panthers’ decision to give the first-round pick a three-year, $63 million deal with a $15 million signing bonus and $33 million guaranteed doesn’t look to be the smartest move in the world – at least in hindsight.
Releasing the signal-caller makes no sense with finances being tight due to COVID-19 losses. So the best route Carolina has at moving Bridgewater would be to find a willing suitor in the trade market.
Just what the market would be if the Panthers made Bridgewater available for trade is up for debate. This is sure to be an unprecedented period of quarterback movement across the league and there are plenty of teams looking to make improvements at the most important position on the field, which might see a few calls made in Carolina’s direction.
The Panthers won’t want to leave themselves short. So perhaps including Bridgewater in a potential package to get an upgrade is the smartest way to go.
However, if they can get a couple of extra draft picks, it wouldn’t hurt either.
With that being said, here are three deals with potential suitors if the Panthers are intent on moving on from Bridgewater after just one season.
