4 potential second-round picks for the Panthers in 2021
By Dean Jones
Brevin Jordan – TE (Miami)
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the Carolina Panthers need some extra assistance at the tight end spot this offseason. Ian Thomas didn’t end up doing enough to be Greg Olsen’s long-term successor and not having a big body catching across the middle and in the red zone was a glaring deficiency after the Pro Bowl veteran opted for a move to the Seattle Seahawks.
If the Panthers wish to address this in the 2021 NFL Draft and opt not to take Kyle Pitts in the first round, then a player with the upside of Brevin Jordan should be high on the shortlist. The Miami star is arguably the draft’s most complete prospect at the position this year, and his physical attributes could not be more impressive.
Jordan has the size and athleticism to be a matchup nightmare for an outside linebacker or slot cornerbacks at the next level. He uses his frame extremely well to make things difficult for defenders and has a nous for catching assuredly under pressure.
One area that often gets overlooked regarding Jordan’s production is blocking, which remains an important part of being an NFL tight end despite the ever-growing influence of pass-catchers at the position.
The prospect dealt with defensive ends and other edge rushers convincingly throughout his time with the Hurricanes, which stands out when one examines Jordan’s tape and he should be high on the Panthers’ list of possibilities.
