Can the Carolina Panthers afford to wait for Deshaun Watson?
By Dean Jones
Can the Carolina Panthers secure Deshaun Watson?
The interest is there.
But only time will tell as to whether they can make the right pieces available to tempt the Texans into trading away their franchise player.
Deshaun Watson is worth it, and quarterbacks of his ilk don’t move around too often in their prime. However, the king’s ransom being demanded by Houston is clearly why teams are looking at other alternatives, so the Carolina Panthers will need to be completely convinced they can land the player if they focus all their attention on him and not a lot else.
One could argue that only the Chiefs and Bills wouldn’t consider Watson as an upgrade on their current starting option.
Returning the player to an area where he starred at Clemson only heightens the level of anticipation surrounding a potential deal, which would propel the Panthers from also-rans to playoff contenders in an instant even without Christian McCaffrey.
It would be a bombshell move, to put it mildly.
But the whole situation is already becoming more than a little tedious for some, which is just what the Texans want.
The Panthers putting all their chips into the middle of the table for Watson is a distinct possibility. But time is of the essence and the time to act or walk away is fast approaching.
