5 more cap-saving cuts the Carolina Panthers could make soon

Another free-agent signing that didn’t work out as the Carolina Panthers had hoped is Juston Burris. The safety suffered some injury problems throughout the campaign and his tandem alongside Tre Boston didn’t bring much in the way of consistent production.
Considering there is no financial benefit in releasing Boston after he signed a three-year, $18 million extension last spring, Burris might be the man to make way for a better option. Carolina would save $3.9 million in the process, which could see his time with the franchise cut short after just one season.
The Panthers are no doubt contemplating moving Jeremy Chinn back to his preferred position of safety after starring at outside linebacker during a phenomenal rookie campaign. There are also some intriguing options entering from the college ranks that fit the athletic mold of player Matt Rhule recruited heavily during his first offseason period with the organization.
This means Burris could be on the outside looking in when it’s all said and done.
Had the cap gone up as expected before COVID-19 took hold on society, things might have been different. But that is simply not the case, and the former North Carolina State star might find himself on the free-agent scrapheap when the decision comes to make some more salary-cap sacrifices after Kawann Short’s release.
