Christian McCaffrey is a fan favorite

Being one of the best running backs in the league has its perks – one of those perks is becoming the favorite player on their team. As the only “superstar” caliber player on the Carolina Panthers, Christian McCaffrey’s hype level could not be replaced by Deshaun Watson.

The elite quarterback may bring a lot of hype. But it’s hard to replace someone like McCaffrey.

For over the past four seasons, the Panthers have continued to part ways with players beloved by fans. Losing Cam Newton, Luke Kuechly, Greg Olsen, Thomas Davis, Jonathan Stewart, and now Kawaan Short over the past four seasons has hurt considerably and seen a lot of supporters become detached with not being able to witness games in person due to COVID-19.

Of course, the Panthers still have some fan favorites on the roster, but none of them can be compared to McCaffrey. At this time, Carolina needs to build around a superstar and make the team better without giving away even more prized possessions in the process.

There has to be a way for the Panthers to bring in another star without breaking the bank. It’s one thing to give up a role player and some first-round picks, but it’s another to pull the trigger on a deal that includes multiple first-rounders and someone like McCaffrey.

McCaffrey is one of the league’s highest-paid running backs, and he’s set to say with the Panthers until 2025 if he’s not traded and still performing at a high level. Carolina knows this fan-favorite is locked down and wants to play here for his entire career, so they would be wise not to include him in any deal for Watson.
