C.J. Beathard is one of those players who might thrive with a little more responsibility on his shoulders. The quarterback has been a solid performer when called upon during his four years with the San Francisco 49ers and the time may have come for the player to try and earn a starting opportunity elsewhere.

The Niners have some upcoming complications with Jimmy Garoppolo, who has endured some struggles under center and injury problems to boot. Whether this will result in the organization trying to trade the veteran this offseason is up for debate. But the allure of landing somebody like Deshaun Watson is a temptation that might be too great to ignore.

Beathard showed what he is capable of during the final two games of the 2020 season, where he started in place of Garoppolo.

This move isn’t one that is likely to cost the earth as the player probably wants a realistic opportunity to progress his career, which the Carolina Panthers could possibly give him if they strike out on a top target in the coming weeks.

This would be an underwhelming signing from the fanbase’s perspective. They want the Panthers to hit a home run and go bold with their decision, but Beathard might have a little more upside than most on the free-agent market.
