This is the dream scenario for the Carolina Panthers and anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves. Getting Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans would be a monumental boost that might cost the earth, but the clear benefits are there for all to see.

Players like Watson don’t become available for trade every day, and certainly not with so much production ahead of them. He is still just 25-years-old and is coming off a 2020 season that saw him crowned the NFL’s passing leader despite losing his primary weapon prior to the campaign in DeAndre Hopkins.

It would be a game-changer for the Panthers, who are making no secret of their desire to move on from Teddy Bridgewater after just one year under center. The former first-round pick just wasn’t good enough in crucial moments and his clear regression from a confidence perspective down the stretch was all the decision-makers needed to conclude something better is going to be needed moving forward.

Whether the Texans eventually bow to Watson’s trade demands is up for debate.

There is also the small matter of other potential suitors being able to put together a more enticing package despite the player’s no-trade clause. But there appears little doubt that the Panthers are going to shoot their shot in an attempt to bring the signal-caller back to an area where he starred in college.
