Washington Football Team

Another possible reunion for Curtis Samuel this offseason would be with the Washington Football Team. Former Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera did a tremendous job in difficult circumstances in 2020 and with $41.89 million in free salary-cap space, there is every chance they can make a bold bid for a second consecutive playoff berth next time around.

Finding a long-term answer at quarterback will be key. But the thought of Samuel on an offense that has some outstanding young playmakers cannot be ignored.

Washington will get some exceptional inside knowledge regarding what Samuel could bring to the organization on and off the field from Rivera and Marty Hurney, who also joined the front office after he was fired from his role of general manager for the second time.

There are worse places for Samuel to end up, of that there is little doubt.

His previous familiarity with Rivera would enable him to hit the ground running. If the Panthers can get a draft selection in return on a tag-and-trade, they’d be foolish not to consider it.

It will be hard to see Samuel go, especially given how important he was to the team’s fortunes in 2020. But the NFL is a business and COVID-19 has forced every team in the league to approach things a little bit differently this offseason, including the Panthers.
