4 underachieving free agents the Panthers could gamble on

Xavier Woods – S
- 2020 team – Dallas Cowboys
There is no denying the physical skills Xavier Woods brings to the table. The former sixth-round pick deserves a tremendous amount of credit for carving out a role for himself at the next level. But considering what was expected of the safety heading into the 2020 campaign, one cannot help but be extremely disappointed by his level of production.
The Dallas Cowboys struggled overall throughout the campaign. Woods wasn’t the only one who underachieved from a performance perspective by any stretch of the imagination. But considering he’s out of contract this spring, the former Louisiana Tech star has plenty to lose.
It might be worth the Carolina Panthers giving Woods the benefit of the doubt.
Money is tight in Dallas for obvious reasons. So they might not have enough to keep him around and this is something they should enquire about after releasing Tre Boston.
Outside of this season, Woods has been a solid contributor for the Cowboys and has impressive instincts on the backend. This would be a high-risk, high reward pickup by the Panthers but one that might just be worth its weight in gold if the player enjoys a bounce-back year in a different environment away from the pressure cooker of ‘America’s Team’.
