He is a special player who has the ability to ignite a franchise, but the Houston Texans haven’t exactly done the best job of putting the quarterback in the right sort of position to succeed.

Carolina needs to move heaven and earth to get Watson. So this should be proof positive that they’d want to do whatever they could to maximize his ability entering the player’s prime years.

Being this involved in some playing personnel decisions would be welcome, especially as this was promised to him in Houston by owner Cal McNair before the signal-caller was completely ignored in a move that proved to be the straw that broke the camel’s back, so to speak.

The Panthers were in something of a damage control situation after parting ways with iconic quarterback Cam Newton in messy circumstances last year. The 2015 NFL MVP and Watson are reportedly close, so whether he’ll have some say in such a move one way or another remains to be seen.
