LaMelo Ball showing Panthers that a star is everything
A major boost for the Carolina Panthers
It’s no secret that the Carolina Panthers are aggressively in pursuit of Houston Texans signal-caller Deshaun Watson. If they can somehow make the trade without giving up Christian McCaffrey, it instantly becomes one of the most exciting offenses in the NFL.
Watson is arguably a top-five quarterback in the league and one of the faces of the sport. Moreover, the window to compete is getting wider with lots of questions surrounding the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints‘ viability in the NFC South next season.
As many current and former NFL players have stated, having an elite quarterback is a huge boost on and off the field.
Getting Watson makes it clear to this Panthers locker room and the fans that the goal is to win a Super Bowl sooner rather than later – something team owner David Tepper is absolutely desperate to achieve after finally getting the right pieces in key positions of power for the first time since buying the organization from Jerry Richardson.
Players buy-in and play harder when they feel the organization is doing its best to win. One only has to look at the complete turnaround made by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when Tom Brady joined last spring, which eventually saw the team go on a memorable playoff run to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
With the pedigree that comes from winning a national championship at Clemson, there’s no question Watson that would arguably be a bigger star in the Carolinas than LaMelo Ball.
