Carolina Panthers need a Teddy Bridgewater replacement

If the New Orleans Saints put in a call for the availability of Teddy Bridgewater – if they haven’t already – then the Carolina Panthers should only pull the trigger if they have a viable replacement. This is something they appear intent on getting if their early moves in free agency are any indication and whether this is a little harsh on the player or not, the writing is well and truly on the wall.

Of course, the prize they want the most is Deshaun Watson, even though the Houston Texans aren’t taking trade calls at the present time. However, this is a rapidly changing situation that represents a powder keg ready to go off at any moment. So the Panthers need to be ready with an astronomical offer to secure their man.

This might be a pipe dream for some.

But if owner David Tepper has his say, then they’ll be going all out and are reportedly willing to “pay any price” to land Watson.

If this doesn’t work out, then options such as Sam Darnold or even Jimmy Garoppolo might be considered. There is also the potential for Carolina to draft a hotly touted college recruit at No. 8 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, although the top-three prospects could be off the board by then.

It’s a precarious situation, of that there is little doubt.

The sooner it gets resolved, the quicker a potential trade for Bridgewater can be agreed upon.
