There still appears to be some untapped potential where Jourdan Lewis is concerned. The defensive back is athletic, versatile, and seems to be a good fit in Phil Snow’s defensive scheme if the Carolina Panthers looked in his direction during free agency in 2021.

Lewis has his tough moments with the Dallas Cowboys last season, but it would be hard to look at any member of their defense and say they played above expectations during a campaign that once again was hyped to the maximum by the national media before failing miserably.

Dallas might be ready to move on from Lewis this offseason, which might just provide the Panthers with a window of opportunity to boost depth within their secondary. Although the former Michigan star has trouble covering on the outside, he is accomplished working out of the slot and this is where Carolina needs help if Corn Elder isn’t brought back.

Another big factor in Lewis’ production on the field is during run support. He is a willing tackler who likes nothing more than joining in at the earliest possible opportunity to prevent opposing backs from gaining additional yards.

Lewis was used in a lot of blitz packages by the Cowboys, something that’s brought six sacks over the last two years.
