Now that the Carolina Panthers have some extra money at their disposal, it could see the franchise become bigger players in the free-agent market. New general manager Scott Fitterer and head coach Matt Rhule have probably already drawn up their list of possible veteran recruits for the annual frenzied period of activity, with the pool of players available set to be even bigger this year due to the current financial restrictions.
The salary-cap is coming down to somewhere in the region of $180-185 million thanks to COVID-19 revenue losses. Some significant sacrifices are going to be made across the league to comply with this figure and talented individuals might consider taking less money on shorter deals before the financial resources increase once again next time around providing there are no further complications.
Carolina needs to strike while the iron is hot as they look to stake their claim for a postseason berth in 2021. There is a solid young core for the Panthers to build around, so if the decision-makers can get their recruitment right this spring, it’s going to make a massive difference.
