Trent Williams – OT

  • 2020 team – San Francisco 49ers

Trent Williams might be heading into the twilight of his career. But few would argue that he isn’t still one of the best edge protectors around.

The stud left tackle was acquire via trade by the San Francisco 49ers despite the fact he’s a free agent this year. A multitude of injuries prevented Kyle Shanahan’s team from getting anywhere near a Super Bowl once again and if they want to get themselves back to prominence, the organization needs to find a way to keep Williams on the books.

This bears more significance when one considers that J.J. Watt is now in the NFC West after signing with the Arizona Cardinals, so Williams’ presence is absolutely essential if the Niners want to be competitive.

The Carolina Panthers have a big question to answer on the blindside with Russell Okung out-of-contract and unlikely to be brought back. Williams would cost a substantial amount, but the benefits are there for all to see.

Williams gave up four sacks and conceded 10 penalties from 957 snaps in 2020 on his way to an exceptional 91.9 grade from Pro Football Focus. If San Francisco lets him test the free-agent market, teams will be queueing round the block to acquire his services.
