One area where the Carolina Panthers struggled in 2020 was generating pressure from the second level. They parted ways with some veteran players during the previous offseason and this had a big impact on their sack numbers, especially early on thanks to these substantial changes.

There is also the enticing prospect of moving stud rookie Jeremy Chinn back to his preferred position of safety next season. So the Panthers would be wise to get an outside linebacker or two who could assist them reach their postseason goal.

Melvin Ingram is no stranger to the area having grown up in North Carolina and playing his college football as a South Carolina Gamecock. He might be the wrong side of 30 now, but providing the financial cost isn’t too steep this move makes a ton of sense and would be hugely popular with the team’s loyal fanbase.

Ingram is a dominant edge rusher whose ability to support in running downs also catches the eye. The three-time Pro Bowler formed a prolific tandem with Joey Bosa on the Los Angeles Chargers and although he managed to turn out in just seven games in 2020, this is an option well worth considering from the Panthers’ perspective if the price is right for both parties.
