5 NFC West free agents the Carolina Panthers should target in 2021
By Dean Jones
Josh Reynolds – WR
- 2020 team – Los Angeles Rams
The Carolina Panthers could be losing Curtis Samuel in free agency after reportedly deciding to use the franchise tag on stud right tackle Taylor Moton. This would be a body blow in no uncertain terms and even though they’ve extended Brandon Zylstra and Keith Kirkwood, asking them to replicate the former Ohio State star’s production is probably too much.
That could see an additional reinforcement or two coming into the fold in free agency or the 2021 NFL Draft. It is another tremendous class of wideout entering from the college system this year, which would also be a cheaper option. But if they are looking for a young veteran with plenty going for him then Josh Reynolds is a name that should come up in potential discussions.
The former fourth-round pick is coming off a career season where he brought in 52 receptions from 81 targets on his way to 618 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Reynolds is a threat to make a difference all over the field and the strides made in 2020 won’t have gone unnoticed by other teams across the league.
As stated previously, the Rams are up against it from a salary-cap perspective this spring. This would make things difficult to keep Reynolds around if he gets a better offer elsewhere. Providing the wideout isn’t demanding the earth, bringing the Texas A&M product on board would compensate somewhat for Samuel’s impending departure.
