Panthers 2021 Draft: Pre-free agency 7-round mock draft
By Dean Jones
Round No. 4 (Pick No. 113)
Cornell Powell – WR (Clemson)
Now there is some doubt as to whether Cornell Powell is going to make it this far down the draft after a sensational evaluation period that was further enhanced at Clemson’s pro day. But if the wide receiver is available at this juncture then the Carolina Panthers should not hesitate to pull the trigger.
Powell may have taken some time to become a prominent member of the Tigers’ passing attack, but he enjoyed a standout 2020 season at just the right time to see him fly up draft boards as a result.
The prospect ended the campaign with 53 receptions, 882 receiving yards, and seven touchdowns. This also included a yards-per-catch average of 16.6 and featured plenty of memorable highlights with consensus No. 1 overall selection Trevor Lawrence distributing the football.
Carolina is bracing itself for the departure of Curtis Samuel in free agency, so they’ll need another talented offensive weapon who can be depended upon. Powell fits into this category in no uncertain terms and there is just no telling how much better the player can become if he builds on his recent momentum.
There is a big chance of another team taking a chance on him higher-up the draft. So if the Panthers identify him as a player of interest, they’d be wise not to wait.
