Panthers 2021 Draft: Pre-free agency 7-round mock draft
By Dean Jones
Round No. 5 (Pick No. 151)
Deommodore Lenoir – CB (Oregon)
Another area where the Carolina Panthers could use some additional reinforcements is within their cornerback room. Donte Jackson looked like a player with shutdown potential following the bye week that is sure to stand the player in good stead heading into a contract year. But there is growing uncertainty surrounding others on the depth chart that may be a cause for concern.
Rasul Douglas and Corn Elder are both free agents, so it remains to be seen just how much attention they’ll attract on the market. Troy Pride Jr. and Stantley Thomas-Oliver went through some expected growing pains during their rookie seasons, so much will depend on how they develop during the offseason period.
Bringing in another athletic prospect isn’t going to hurt the Panthers, and it might even be a position that is addressed earlier than this unless a veteran comes in via free agency.
Someone like Deommodore Lenoir ticks all the boxes. He might not be the quickest prospect in the world, but his ability to cover on the outside or in the slot with equal efficiency makes him an intriguing corner to potentially target.
Carolina reportedly recently met virtually with Lenoir, who also has no trouble making a lasting impact on running downs.
