Panthers 2021 Draft: 3 big takeaways from Trey Lance’s pro day
By Dean Jones
Trey Lance’s arm strength
What makes Trey Lance such an intriguing prospect entering the 2021 NFL Draft this year is his arm-strength. His ability to move the ball downfield quickly and with accuracy is always a hot commodity across the league, which is something that Teddy Bridgewater struggled to accomplish during his first under center for the Carolina Panthers.
Lance is absolutely fearless in this regard. So providing Carolina gets some better protection around him in this scenario, it could reap instant rewards.
The North Dakota State star demonstrated this to full effect at his pro day, which is sure to have left a notable impression on those from the Panthers organization in attendance.
This isn’t the be-all and end-all regarding prospects. But it sure does help.
Besides, Lance has the sort of velocity on his throws that means he is capable of practically doing it all and it could give offensive coordinator Joe Brady a lot more to work with from a scheme standpoint considering how limited Bridgewater has been throughout his career on deep routes.
It was hard to look at Lance’s composure with all eyes on him and come to a conclusion other than that he is destined for greatness. The buzz is building and it might result in him going higher than No. 8, but if the Panthers haven’t acquired some like Deshaun Watson by then and the prospect is available, they’d be wise to pull the trigger.
