It won’t come as a surprise to anyone if the Carolina Panthers bring in a veteran cornerback during free agency. They desperately need someone consistent to pair with Donte Jackson – who turned in some impressive performances down the stretch – so if they can acquire an immediate contributor opposite the former LSU sensation, the sky is the limit.

The Green Bay Packers are busy moving money around to comply with the new salary-cap. But it might see a talented player like Kevin King looking for a new home.

King has impressive size and fluidity in coverage without quite living up to expectations so far. His production in 2020 warranted just a 55.6 grade from Pro Football Focus and although this isn’t the be-all and end-all, it is a strong indicator that more in the way of consistency is needed.

The Washington product might fall into the category of veterans who are looking for a one-year deal before cashing in next time around when the cap is set to soar once things improve financially.

COVID-19 has thrown a severe spanner in the works for almost every team this offseason. But with vaccine rollouts increasingly rapidly and the promise of more fans in the stands in 2021, this predicament might be a thing of the past this time next year.

King would be a shrewd pickup by the Panthers and one that could help a young and progressive defense take the necessary steps forward.
