4 Carolina Panthers free agents who will get paid too much in 2021
By Dean Jones
Rasul Douglas – CB
Another player who might earn more than his performances dictate is Rasul Douglas. The cornerback is reportedly drawing a strong market according to FanSided‘s NFL insider Matt Lombardo, which could see a bidding war emerge for his services.
Any team taking on Douglas would be going off his early-season contribution for the Carolina Panthers and not what we saw from the free-agent signing over the second half of the campaign. He was an absolute revelation after arriving late when he failed to make the Philadelphia Eagles’ 53-man roster before things tailed off considerably down the stretch.
That being said, Douglas far exceeded expectations and especially as there was no time to acclimatize before he was thrown in at the deep end thanks to Eli Apple’s injury and eventual release.
If Lombarado’s reports about plenty of interest regarding the corner come to fruition, then this will inevitably drive the price up for a player that was hit and miss in the grand scheme of things in 2020.
Douglas would foolish not to take the biggest offer in the current financial climate. But whether this is something he can live up to is up for debate.
