It’s no secret whatsoever that the Carolina Panthers are trying to get a proven cornerback to assist Donte Jackson next season. The former LSU standout looked like a No. 1 option after finally recovering from a toe problem after the Week 13 bye. But there are more than a few concerns about other areas of the depth chart that need to be sorted before competitive action rolls around in 2021.

Another potential target that the Panthers missed out on was Michael Davis. The physically imposing individual got an offer from Carolina before eventually agreeing to a multi-year extension with the Los Angeles Chargers, which represents a huge payday for a player that entered the NFL as an undrafted prospect out of BYU.

Davis played superbly well last season to warrant a big financial commitment from the Chargers. He gave up just 56 receptions from 92 targets thrown his way and there is every chance this confidence boost will see plenty more in the way of production to come moving forward.

As for the Panthers, getting another exciting young cornerback via the 2021 NFL Draft is well worth considering. However, rookie players at the position tend to take more time than most to progress – as Carolina experienced with Troy Pride Jr. – so someone with more experience and scheme friendly is the best avenue to go down to bolster a young and improving defense.
