If the Carolina Panthers want to be a little bolder with their recruitment as they search for a Curtis Samuel replacement, then Will Fuller should be high on the shortlist. The Houston Texans don’t appear to be the best environment for players currently and the wide receiver will no doubt take this opportunity to move away from the organization in pursuit of a new challenge elsewhere.

The market for wideouts doesn’t appear to be as strong as expected despite Samuel getting a solid chunk of change from the Washington Football Team. This could mean Fuller is available at a bargain price compared to what he would normally command. But there are some obvious red flags to consider despite his unquestioned talent.

First, the former Notre Dame star has endured some difficulty staying healthy thanks to hamstring problems. This is not uncommon for players with Fuller’s elite speed and the Panthers would be taking a big gamble considering this move is set to cost more than going through the 2021 NFL Draft.

Another is Fuller’s recent suspension for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. He took responsibility and claimed it was due to taking medication that the player thought was permitted by the NFL, before later finding out it wasn’t.

Fuller will miss the first game of next season thanks to this lack of judgment. But his big-play ability and willingness to contribute from the slot when required would be a tremendous asset to call upon at the right price.
