Denzel Perryman’s leadership

A large number of established veterans departed the Carolina Panthers from a defensive perspective in 2020, which was only heightened by the retirement of Luke Kuechly. This left them devoid of any real experience and things look even bleaker in this regard following the team’s decision to cut ties with Tre Boston, Kawann Short, and Stephen Weatherly.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Carolina was desperate for a fresh injection of youth and considering the way things got better with every passing game last season, it leaves plenty of reasons to be encouraged.

However, if they want to take that next step forward then some veteran leadership will be needed and that’s where Denzel Perryman comes in. The linebacker plays with infectious enthusiasm and fierce determination in equal measure, which inspires others around him in no uncertain terms.

Perryman is a violent run defender that knows exactly what position to be in on almost every down. Kuechly was notorious for this during his time with the Panthers and if their newest free-agent signing is even half as effective, then it will make all the difference moving forward.

And if Perryman can provide assistance to younger members on the roster in the process, then that would be the icing on the cake.
