Round No. 1 (Pick No. 8)

Trey Lance – QB (North Dakota State)

In all likelihood, the Carolina Panthers will need to make a move into the top-five to select Trey Lance. The North Dakota State standout has surged up draft boards in recent months, which was only enhanced by an eye-catching showing at his pro day in front of Matt Rhule, Scott Fitterer, and Joe Brady.

For the Panthers to send their big-three when it comes to decision-making to see Lance in the flesh, it means they have him firmly on their radar. He is an electrifying prospect that seems to possess every tool needed to make a real go of things at the next level providing there isn’t too much pressure on him right away.

This is something Carolina could possibly provide if they decide to keep Teddy Bridgewater around, although they remain “locked-in” regarding a potential bombshell move for Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans despite the current legal matters surrounding the quarterback.

If they cannot manage to get their hands on Watson, then Lance becomes a realistic possibility. However, the top-four quarterbacks in this class might go in the opening four picks given team needs, so if the Panthers identify Lance as their player of interest they need to come up with a package that guarantees them this possibility.
