Round No. 5 (Pick No. 151)

Dazz Newsome – WR (North Carolina)

The Carolina Panthers made a shrewd move to acquire David Moore from the Seattle Seahawks in a bargain deal to replace Curtis Samuel, who departed for the Washington Football Team in free agency. Scott Fitterer wasted no time going back to his former employer to boost depth behind D.J. Moore and Robby Anderson, which could also benefit from another weapon for whoever is under center to call upon.

Dazz Newsome will be no stranger to the Panthers’ fanbase after playing his college football at North Carolina. He is a dynamic weapon that can be used all over the field in a similar fashion to how Samuel was deployed by Joe Brady in 2020, which also includes carrying the ball out of the backfield should the opportunity arise.

Newsome has the ability to get open quickly from the slot and has reliable hands when targeted. The wideout is tremendous at accumulating yards after the catch and the Panthers should not hesitate if he is still around at this juncture.

This is a pretty deep class for wide receivers once again, although they will have to go some way to match the level demonstrated by the class of 2020 last time out. Newsome has a significant amount of upside and is an offensive coordinator’s dream, of that there is little doubt.
