Derrick Brown – Carolina Panthers DT

Derrick Brown was the right choice at No. 7 overall by the Carolina Panthers in the 2020 NFL Draft. The defensive tackle grew in stature as his rookie campaign went on and managed to put up some impressive numbers despite being one of the most double-teamed players at the position.

It was something of a surprise when the Panthers cut ties with Zach Kerr after just one season considering his production on a rotational basis and the minimal savings involved. However, if Brown was ever worried about what sort of quality was going to be around him, he needn’t have been.

Carolina brought in Morgan Fox from the Los Angeles Rams, who thrived alongside Aaron Donald in the three-technique. This will be a huge asset for Brown as he looks to become an even bigger influence as a sophomore, with the defensive front now loaded with individuals that can get after the quarterback.

Brown also stood out considerably in this area of play, which was a real concern for many coming out of Auburn. Providing his ability in run support improves – which it should – he’ll have all the skills needed to complement what someone like Fox brings to the table.

There is even a chance this position gets even stronger with a talented young recruit via the 2021 NFL Draft, which wouldn’t hurt Brown in the slightest.
