Tyler Shelvin – LSU

If the Carolina Panthers are looking for someone who primarily focuses more on stopping the run, then Tyler Shelvin will be high on the shortlist. The LSU defensive tackle is a mammoth presence on the interior that is incredibly hard to move off the block – something that shouldn’t change in the NFL.

Shelvin is one of the easiest players to evaluate. Scouts know exactly what they’re getting from the prospect and considering how many pass-rushers Carolina has on their defensive front, his skills would complement them considerably.

Much will depend on how Shelvin has improved over the last year after opting out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 health concerns. But considering how he approached every down with urgency and determination, he’ll have been putting the work in over recent months in pursuit of making a big impression from the word go.

Everything is there where Shelvin is concerned. He is assured from a technical standpoint, has heavy hands, and possesses the sort of frame that moves opposing offensive linemen around with ease.

Anyone hoping Shelvin becomes a three-down lineman at the next level might be out of luck. But the Panthers desperately need someone capable of stopping the run consistently and have enough on their depth chart for another individual to come in on passing downs.
