  • Suitors – Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots.

The Carolina Panthers made the expected move to release Kawann Short considering the huge savings involved with his early departure. This ended a prolific spell for the Pro Bowl defensive tackle, who has turned out just five times in the last two seasons due to injury.

There appears to be plenty of desire where Short is concerned to keep playing and he recently stated plenty of calls have come his way from teams looking to acquire his services. Carolina also stated they might be willing to take him back on a reduced deal, but the former Purdue standout might see this as a good opportunity to finish his tremendous career on a team with bigger ambitions.

One such team is the Buffalo Bills, who will know all about what he brings to the table. Head coach Sean McDermott was the Panthers defensive coordinator when Short was at the top of his game and there are plenty of other ex-Carolina players residing on the roster that would make his transition to a different environment a smooth one.

This is also going to catch the eye of Bill Belichick, who has a reputation for acquiring veterans like Short on the cheap and giving them a new lease of life. The New England Patriots have been extremely active in free agency so far and if the head coach/general manager wants a recommendation, that can be provided by Cam Newton after he signed a one-year extension.
