Although FanSided’s national NFL insider Matt Lombardo reported that the market for Rasul Douglas was a strong one, there has been nothing in the way of movement just yet. Free agency regarding cornerbacks has been relatively slow overall, but it appears as if the Carolina Panthers are moving on from the player with no offer on the table.

Douglas was a late arrival to the Panthers after failing to make the 53-man roster of the Philadelphia Eagles. His level of production from the word go was outstanding before regressing down the stretch, which was a real shame both for the player and the organization.

The former West Virginia standout has a real opportunity to cement a starting position opposite Donte Jackson long-term. This failed to materialize in the end but there could be some teams looking for assistance in their secondary and Douglas might not cost the earth at this juncture.

Teams like the New Orleans Saints, Dallas Cowboys, and the Arizona Cardinals are all in the market for a rotational cornerback. Douglas might not have shined down the stretch, but his eye-catching performances over the first few games of the campaign are worth taking a chance on.

This is also a positional group that the Panthers need to address at the earliest possible opportunity, with plenty of names worthy of consideration both on the free-agent market and the 2021 NFL Draft.
