Matt Ammendola – Carolina Panthers K

Matt Ammendola was recently signed by the Carolina Panthers to give a little bit more competition at kicker. But just how good might that be?

After walking on at Oklahoma State in 2015 and being redshirted, Ammendola finally got his chance in the 2017 season where he posted an impressive 79.3 percent accuracy. Things dipped the next year but bounced back during the 2019 campaign with 76.9%.

While those numbers may not sound like the most impressive thing in the world, Butker bosted worse numbers until his senior season and only continued to improve once in the NFL.

During the 2017 season, Ammendola ranked fifth in made field goals, sixth in total attempts, and fourth in points. Showing some promise if given enough time to learn the position and get used to big games.

While Ammendola may not have the biggest leg in the world, his college long being only 49 yards, the former Cowboy has shown the ability to make 60 yarders during private workouts and realistically most teams don’t ask their kicker to make kicks above 60 very often.

Ammendola has shown the ability to contribute when given the chance and with the grit of being a former walk-on and going undrafted. He should give a good level of competition at training camp and well into the preseason.
