Alex Leatherwood – OL (Alabama)

As stated previously, the Carolina Panthers need some reinforcements for the long-term across the offensive line. Signing guys like Pat Elflein and Cam Erving is all well and good, but both veterans need to raise their production considerably if they want to make any sort of contribution in 2021.

Getting someone who can become a plug-and-play option is obviously a pressing need. Alabama’s pro day did nothing to dispel the myth that Alex Leatherwood can thrive at the next level, but what his best position will be is still unclear.

Leatherwood told reporters following his impressive workout that some coaches see him operating as a tackle, with others looking to move the prospect onto the interior in a professional environment. The player appears comfortable in either spot thanks to his size and incredible power, although there is the possibility of him getting found out by speedier edge rushers when he gets to the NFL.

Either way, Leatherwood represents a tremendous character that seems like a good fit within Carolina’s locker room. There is a high probability that the national championship winner will be around when the Panthers are up at No. 39 overall and depending on what they do with their first-rounder, he might well be on their list of possible options.
