Jayson Oweh – DE/OLB (Penn State)

Perhaps the most impressive display of athleticism throughout a busy week came from Jayson Oweh. The edge rusher is a physical phenom that set social media ablaze following Penn State’s pro day, which is sure to make more than a few teams sit up and take notice.

Oweh weighed in at 257 pounds and ran an eye-popping 4.36-second 40-yard dash that sent jaws to the floor both on-site and from the various videos distributed in the immediate aftermath of such an amazing display of athleticism.

Whether this makes a successful transition to the next level is up for debate. But considering the prospect’s level of production for the Nittany Lions, it’s hard to bet against him.

Although Oweh didn’t record a sack in seven games during the 2020 campaign, his 6.5 tackles for loss are a good yardstick from which to build. He has no trouble putting his hand in the dirt as a defensive end or rushing from the outside linebacker position, with this versatility normally a hot commodity when it comes to incoming college recruits.

This is not the biggest need for the Carolina Panthers following the arrivals of Haason Reddick and Morgan Fox in free agency. But if another Penn State product falls to them in the second round much like Yetur Gross-Matos did in 2020, then it would give them plenty to think about.
