3 things for Carolina Panthers to watch at Justin Fields’ pro day
By Dean Jones
Justin Fields’ arm strength
One of the primary reasons why the Carolina Panthers are looking for a better alternative to Teddy Bridgewater is a lack of consistency in getting the football downfield. Time and time again fans were left frustrated by the quarterback’s hesitancy to find receivers that were clearly open on deep routes, which is something opposing defenses recognized pretty quickly.
Justin Fields has no such trouble. His time at Ohio State was littered with memorable moments that involved eye-catching deep ball accuracy and this is sure to wow those in attendance at Ohio State’s pro day.
If Fields wants a challenge, then he should ask his coaches to put him through the wringer during the workout. The prospect has plenty of notable tape from big games that scouts will no doubt go through thoroughly, so challenging himself with difficult throws will be the best way to impress.
At least from the outside looking in, Fields checks all the boxes in terms of what it takes to be a signal-caller at the next level. There does appear to be some work to be done when it comes to moving off the first read quickly if it isn’t there. But that is something that could easily be improved on once he arrives in the NFL.
Airing it out is all the rage in today’s high-powered offenses across the league. Fields definitely has these qualities and putting in an outstanding performance during his final chance to shine should solidify the exciting signal-caller as a top-eight pick.
