Deshaun Watson chase is on hold

It appeared as if the Carolina Panthers were all-in regarding a trade to land Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans this offseason. The elite signal-caller handed in a trade request that was met with no willingness to accommodate by the new regime, who didn’t take calls from interested parties to the point where big offers ended up being left as voicemails.

The Panthers now face some significant complications in their pursuit of Watson. More than 20 civil suits have now been submitted in the former Clemson standout’s direction regarding alleged sexual misconduct, which the NFL is also reportedly investigated with a view to any possible sanctions.

What comes from this is simply too soon to tell. However, this is not going to be sorted before the NFL Draft and teams are already making alternative plans in a bid not to be left behind.

Bringing someone like Watson to Carolina would completely revolutionize the franchise and see expectations rise to a level not seen since Cam Newton was in his prime.

But now the Panthers are left with a big decision that centers around whether to wait for a top-five player on the off-chance Houston fields some calls once this situation is resolved, take their chances with a college player, or even coming up with a package that gets Sam Darnold from the New York Jets.

It’s a precarious situation and one that does hamper Carolina’s plans considering how apparently fixated they were on attaining Watson.
