Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears may have declared Andy Dalton as their No. 1 next season. But few believe he can take the organization into legitimate Super Bowl contention judging by his efforts with the Dallas Cowboys last time out.

They were hoping to land Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks after the signal-caller listed them as one of his preferred destinations. So settling for Dalton does nothing to solve what’s become a long-term quarterback problem in Chicago.

The Bears were reportedly high on Teddy Bridgewater before the Carolina Panthers gave the player an offer he couldn’t refuse in free agency last year. Whether they’d be willing to go back for the former first-round pick is unclear, but it’s something for them to consider at the very least.

It isn’t going to take much in the way of compensation to get Bridgewater from the Panthers after they made the move for Sam Darnold. Carolina gave up three picks to the New York Jets, so getting a late-rounder back is probably all they’re looking for at this juncture.

Chicago might decide to roll with Dalton and take their chances with a college quarterback next year if things don’t work out. However, if they were interested in the player last spring before striking out, they might have a better chance of securing his services now.
