4 possible suitors for Teddy Bridgewater after Sam Darnold trade
By Dean Jones
Denver Broncos
According to multiple reports, the Denver Broncos were keen to trade for Sam Darnold before the Carolina Panthers swooped with a better offer than stemmed from a meeting between Scott Fitterer and Joe Douglas at the pro day of Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields. This is yet another strong indicator that the organization isn’t sold on Drew Lock being their long-term starter moving forward and if they decide not to move up from No. 9 in the 2021 NFL Draft, looking in Teddy Bridgewater’s direction wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world.
The Broncos have a lot of talent on offense that just needs fine-tuning. Having a consistent quarterback under center would help their cause enormously, with Bridgewater’s accuracy one of the things he does have going for him despite the player’s obvious limitations.
Much will depend on whether Bridgewater and the Panthers can come to some arrangement regarding a contract restructure. But the thin air in Denver could be a big help to a signal-caller that does have some difficulty moving the ball on deep shots with efficiency.
This would prevent the Broncos from giving up valuable draft capital on the off-chance the Atlanta Falcons don’t take someone like Justin Fields or Trey Lance should they become available. As for Bridgewater, this would be one of the more enticing spots to land.
