Kyle Pitts is No. 1 on Carolina Panthers big board

According to a recent report from NFL Rumors on Twitter, the Carolina Panthers have Kyle Pitts as No. 1 on their big board ahead of the all-important draft weekend. Head coach Matt Rhule saw for himself what the tight end could do at Florida’s pro day recently, which only enhanced his projection of being a potential revolutionary player at the position.

Pitts is a matchup nightmare both on the outside or in the slot. He doesn’t drop passes – ever – and is a big play waiting to happen in the open field or in the red zone.

To say the Panthers needed someone like Pitts last season would be something of an understatement.

They got next to no production from their tight ends after deciding to let Greg Olsen leave for the Seattle Seahawks in free agency. So even though Carolina brought in a solid pass-catcher in Dan Arnold, the temptation where Pitts is concerned might be a little too hard to turn down.

However, it does appear unlikely that a prospect so talented will be around by the time Carolina is on the clock at No. 8. The tight end spot isn’t normally associated with top-10 selections. But the simple fact of the matter is Pitts is not your stereotypical talent entering the league.

If the Panthers really want him, then a potential trade-up seems the only likely scenario.
