Major trade with familiar faces in full 7-round Panthers 2021 mock draft
By Dean Jones
Round No. 5 (Pick No. 151)
Josh Palmer – WR (Tennessee)
It might be more of a fine-tuning situation for the Carolina Panthers at wide receiver despite Curtis Samuel signing for the Washington Football Team in free agency. David Moore joined the ranks from the Seattle Seahawks and should make his presence felt. But picking up Josh Palmer here gives Sam Darnold something a little bit different to work with.
Palmer was exactly helped by some poor quarterback play in Tennessee last season, but he still managed to come up with some exceptional plays. He is a big receiver who should be able to become a threat in the red zone, with the prospect’s ball-handling under pressure and athleticism also of a high standard.
There is a chance Palmer is only just scratching the surface of what he is truly capable of. So with some coaching up at the next level, a solid career could be in the offing.
Considering the Panthers already have two prominent outside weapons in D.J. Moore and Robby Anderson, arguably the league’s best dual-threat running back in Christian McCaffrey, and a potential wildcard in free-agent signing David Moore, there should be plenty of space for Palmer to work in should the prospect end up in Carolina – which could very well happen if he falls this far.
