Which running backs could the Carolina Panthers potentially target during the 2021 NFL Draft?

All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey seems to be preparing for a Comeback Player of the Year campaign, so the Carolina Panthers aren’t necessarily in dire need at that position. But with Mike Davis choosing to sign with the Atlanta Falcons in free agency, the organization may be able to find support for No. 22 during the 2021 NFL Draft.

It seems like ages since a running back was taken high in a draft. Since Saquon Barkley was selected No. 2 overall by the New York Giants in 2018, but the first player at the position to come off the board has waited until pick No. 24 in 2019 and No. 32 in 2020 to hear their name called.

According to the most recent mock drafts, this trend is likely to continue this year.

Carolina Panthers have plenty of RB options available.

If the Panthers brass is looking to draft a running back, this has to be music to their ears. A prospect like Clemson-stud Travis Etienne or Doak Walker Award winner Najee Harris could be available to them in the second round. There are also two backs from the same school in Carolina’s backyard that may be even better than the two prospects mentioned and available later.

The bottom line is it’s a great year to be a team without a desperate need at the position. With that said, here are the best six running back prospects the Panthers could target in this draft.
