Panthers draft rumors: Justin Fields, Kyle Pitts, Asante Samuel Jr., move down

Asante Samuel Jr. meets twice with the Carolina Panthers
Although the Carolina Panthers made a shrewd move by bringing in veteran cornerback A.J. Bouye in free agency, the Pro Bowler is suspended for the first two games of the 2021 season and if the team wants to avoid further complications from a depth standpoint, they will need to bring in a capable college prospect or two during the 2021 NFL Draft.
As stated previously, trading for Sam Darnold gives them more in the way of options. But it would be wise for those in power to make the most out of what is expected to be a deep draft class for players at the corner position.
One prospect seems to be interesting them more than most. According to Justin Melo of The Draft Network, Carolina has met twice with Asante Samuel Jr. during the assessment process, with the former Florida State standout coming into the league with a big reputation as he looks to follow in his father’s footsteps.
Taking Samuel Jr. at No. 8 overall would be a major reach the Panthers probably aren’t considering. However, if he is still around late in the first, it might see the organization make a bold move up in order to acquire the player.
Waiting around until No. 39 overall is another option. But it doesn’t appear likely Samuel will be around by then judging by most projections.
