Round No. 4 (Pick No. 113)

Dazz Newsome – WR (North Carolina)

There is no such thing as having too many weapons. Sam Darnold is going to need all the help he can get and Curtis Samuel’s departure to the Washington Football Team during free agency means the Carolina Panthers might want to take advantage of what appears to be yet another deep NFL Draft class at the wide receiver position.

It would be a huge shock if they addressed this need at No. 8 overall despite general manager Scott Fitterer’s intent to go with the best player available at every stage. However, picking up a proven playmaker in the mid-rounds should be considered and Dazz Newsome ticks every box in no uncertain terms.

Newsome is no stranger to the area having played his college football at North Carolina, where he was a vital cog in their prolific offensive machine. The prospect can make an impact on the outside, in the slot, taking carries out of the backfield, or even as a kick returner on special teams should the opportunity arise. This sort of versatility is something Carolina’s coaching staff clearly favors.

Adding Newsome would give the Panthers another dynamic weapon to put alongside D.J. Moore, Robby Anderson, and David Moore. Carolina also has Brandon Zylstra and Keith Kirkwood on the depth chart, with the potential of undrafted free-agent Omar Bayless something that cannot be ignored.
