6 linebackers the Carolina Panthers could pick in the 2021 NFL Draft
Jabril Cox – LSU
Jabril Cox was an FCS All-American who helped his team win three FCS National Championships at North Dakota State. He totaled with 75 tackles, 13 for a loss, 4.5 sacks, one interception, and four passes defended with the Bisons before transferring to LSU for the 2020 season.
Cox was immediately one of the best players on the Tigers’ defense this past season. In 10 games, he totaled 58 tackles, 6.5 for a loss, one sack, three interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, five passes defended, and one forced fumble.
The prospect is great in man and zone coverage. He can handle running backs, tight ends, and some slot wide receivers. Cox needs to continue to work to improve his run defense and playing through contact if he wants to become a prolific starter at the next level.
Cox is a threat on the blitz. He has impressive vision and anticipation on passes and routes. He is quick to the sideline and can play in multiple defensive sets.
Dylan Moses – Alabama
Dylan Moses missed the 2019 season for Alabama with an injury but bounced back to produce 76 tackles, six for a loss, one sack, one interception, three passes defended, one forced fumble for the Crimson Tide in 2020 on their way to a convincing national championship victory.
Moses would probably fit best in a 3-4 scheme but he can play the 4-3. The Carolina Panthers’ primary set is the 4-3 but defensive coordinator Phil Snow mixes in 3-4 and other sets at times. The linebacker would provide some depth at linebacker, but he’s also a player that can play on the outside at times.
The prospect’s pass-rushing and blitzing skills are his strengths. He has an explosive first step, does a good job against the run, and can rack up tackles. Moses has the potential to develop into a linebacker that can cover tight ends and running backs.
